Susannah Redd Corbus came from a very wealthy family of power and politics.  In their days they were considered to be an aristocratic family of Annapolis.  Her father was the Mayor at one time.  She went against her family in order to marry young Christopher.  The Miller's were looked down upon as wild out-country folks and worst of all Indian fighters.
