Richard Whaley married Frances Cromwell about 1595. Between 1595 and 1596 Richard was named Sheriff of Nottinghamshire. In 1602 he was a member of Parliament.

Richard Whaley had three wives, but only Frances, daughter of Sir Henry Cromwell and the Aunt of Oliver Cromwell bore him children.  His first wife was Annie, daughter of  George Horsley.  Second was Frances Cromwell. Third was Jane Stirap.  He is described as a man of "great munificence and energy."  He was a member of Parliament for Boroughbridge in the 43rd year of Elizabeth's reign (1602).  It should be noted that at this point in history, Whaley is the spelling, not Whalley.

The English Civil War

Richard Whaley the Younger lived in England in the mid-1600s when Royalists and Parliamentarians raised arms in one of the bloodiest battles in British history.
